Rate Analysis For Tile Flooring – Cost & Quantity
First, We have to Calculate the qty & Cost of these 5 Materials to calculate the flooring cost.
1). Tiles quantity & cost.
2). Cement quantity & cost.
3). Sand quantity & cost.
4). Grouting quantity & cost.
5). Labor Cost.

Cost & Quantity Of Tiles In A Room
Suppose,
Room Size – 15’ x 12’
(Step 1) Qty of Tile & Rate….
Total Area of Tile Flooring – 15’ x 12’ = 180Sqft
Area of Skirting – (12 x 2) + (15 x 2) = 54feet
Consider, the Height of the Skirting – 6’’
Consider the Height of the Skirting – 6’’ or 0.5’ (covert inch to feet)
(Because, 1 feet = 12inch)
Total Area of Skirting – 54 x 0.5 = 27Sqft.
Total Area for Tile – 180 + 27 = 207Sqft.
Wastage & Breakage @ 5% – 207 x 5% = 10.35Sqft
Total Tiles Required including Wastage – 207 + 10.35 = 217.35Sqft.
Consider tile size – 2’x 2’
So, the Total area of 1 tile – 2’ x 2’ = 4Sqft
Hence,
Total Tiles required – Total Area/1 Tile Area
= 217.35 /4 = 55Tiles
No. of Tiles contains in 1 box – 4Nos.
Total Tiles Box Required – 55/4 = 13.58 or 14Nos.
Total Cost of Tiles
Here, we consider the tile average Rate – 35/-Sqft
1Box Tiles Contain – 4Nos. Or 16Sqft
So, Total Cost of 1 Box – 35 x 16 = Rs.560/-
Total Tile Box Required – 14Nos.
Total Cost of Tiles – 14 x 560 = Rs.7840/-
(Step 2) Cost & Qty of Cement for Tile Flooring
Mortar Ratio – 1:6 (1Part Cement & 6 Part Sand)
Total Area of Tiles – 217Sqft or 20.16Sqmt.
Consider the thickness of Mortar – 50mm or 0.05mtr.
So,
The volume of Mortar – Area x thickness
= 20.16 x 0.05 = 1.008 Cum.
But it is Wet Volume,
To convert wet volume to dry volume multiply it by 1.33(constant)
Hence, Dry Volume = Wet Volume of Mortar x 1.33 = 1.008 x 1.33 = 1.340Cum.
Now, We calculate the quantity of cement mortar
Quantity of Cement – Part of Cement in Mortar/Sum of Ratio x Dry Volume
Quantity of Cement – 1/7 x 1.340 = 0.1914Cum.
As you know, the Density of Cement = 1440Kg/m3
So, Total Cement in Kg – 1440 x 0.1914 = 275.6Kg
(1 cement bag = 50kg)
So, Total No. of Cement Bags = 275/50 = 5.5Bags
Consider 1 Bag for Cement Slurry
Total Cement Bags Required – 5.5 + 1 = 6.5 or 7 Bags
Total Cost of Cement
Here, we Consider Cement Bag Average Rate – Rs.380/-Bag
We Required cement Bags – 7Bags
So,Total Cost of Cement – 7 x 380 = Rs.2660/-
(Step 3) Cost & Qty of Sand for Tile Flooring…
Mortar Ratio – 1:6
Dry Volume = Wet Volume of Mortar x 1.33 = 1.008 x 1.33 = 1.340Cum.
Quantity of Sand – Part of Sand in Mortar /Sum of Ratio x Dry Volume
Quantity of Sand – 6/7 x 1.340 = 1.148 Cum. Or 1.148 x 35.3147 = 40.56Cft
Because, 1Cum = 35.3147Cft
Total Cost of Sand
Here, we consider sand average rate – Rs.50/-Cft
Total Sand Required – 40.56Cft
Total Cost of Sand – 40.56 x 50 = Rs.2028/-
(Step 4) Grouting
1kg white Cement is enough for grouting the Joints
1kg White Cement Cost – Rs.25/-
(Step 5). Labor Cost for Tile Laying…..
Labor rate for Tile Laying work Approx – Rs.12 to 14/-Sqft
Total Tile Laying Required – 217.35Sqft
Consider an average labor charge – Rs.13/-Sqft
So, Total labor cost – 217.35 x 13 = Rs.3695/-
Total Tile Laying Cost – Tile Cost + Cement Cost + Sand Cost + White Cement Cost + Labor Cost
Total Cost – 7840 + 2660 + 2028 + 25 + 3695 = Rs.16248/-
Tile Cost Per Sqft – Total Amount/Total Area
– 16248/217.35 = Rs.74.75/-
Important Notes –
1). The materials rates considered in this rate analysis are exclusive of GST.
2). The Materials & labor rates may vary, depending upon the site condition, location & type of project.
3). I have not considered the wastage of cement & sand in mortar.
So this is the easiest method to calculate tile flooring Cost and materials quantity.
I earnestly hope that this post has been both meaningful and useful to you & help you to make your house flooring estimation.
